HomeNewsWii U Gains amiibo Support With System Update 5.3.0 Enrique Herrera November 11, 2014 News The Wii U’s latest firmware update features amiibo support and also adds an “amiibo Settings” option within system settings where you’ll be able to edit or reset amiibo owner information. As with all firmware updates for both 3DS and Wii U, there’s also the tried and true notification, “Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.” Oftentimes this update message is a cover up for a much greater purpose. In the past, Nintendo blocked the use of flashcarts on the 3DS via one of these routine updates. As for the Wii U, who knows what this latest notification could entail? Interestingly, it was recently announced that amiibo figures are to be region-free, so perhaps this could be the firmware update that actually makes that a reality. With amiibos launching November 21st, which ones will you be picking up? Let your voice be heard in the comments section below.
