West Games to kickstart spiritual successor to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. *UPDATE*

UPDATE: West Games has stated that the Kickstarter is launching tomorrow, June 24th.

Original article:

The people behind the critically acclaimed S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Metro: Last Light are currently planning a kickstarter for their next game, Areal. It will be a spiritual sequel, as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was cancelled in early 2012, and they were unable to reach an agreement with the current rights holders. Their current goal is $30 000, but that may change by the time the project go live. The game is planned for all six major Operating Systems, including Wii U. Here is how the developers describe Areal:

“Areal is a new video game that’s being developed by the people behind S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Metro: Last Night. It features a massive and intricately detailed open world environment that is extremely varied and colorful, even though it’s set in a post-apocalyptic setting. Areal depicts a future where civilization has fallen apart due to an unearthly material called Metamorphite, which eventually spreads, corrupts and infects the whole world. The source of Metamorphite comes from a meteor that impacted the earth long ago, and it is the site of constant conflict and bloodshed.”

This bit certainly makes me interested:

“Areal’s story is not linear – players can choose how their characters act and speak – everything from how you talk to who you kill changes the storyline of Areal. There is no morality system in Areal, so you are free to make choices that you think are best in any given situation, without being blinded and limited by a standard good/evil system.”

West Games have chosen to share the latest draft for their kickstarter page, but warn that they may disable the link at any time. If you wish to have a say, head over to kickstarter before it’s too late.
