HomeNewsViz Media Announces Yo-Kai Watch Manga for Western Release in September Alex Irish April 6, 2015 News Yo-Kai Watch, Level-5’s monster hunting franchise, has become a huge hit in Japan ever since its 2013 launch on 3DS. A western release has all but been promised, with information about its international launch coming in piece meal news. Today, manga and anime publisher Viz Media has announced they will be publishing the Yo-Kai Watch manga in North America this September. It will be published under the company’s Perfect Square imprint, aimed at younger readers. The Yo-Kai Watch manga is where the multi-media franchise got its start in Japan, way back in 2012. Meanwhile, Yo-Kai Watch 2 and its three versions on 3DS, have collectively sold 6 million copies. The franchise has not launched in the west yet presumably because of the cultural barrier: Yo-Kai Watch is based heavily on Japanese mythology, takes place in Japan, and its games feature a heavy amount of text to translate. Clearly, Level-5 is taking their time to ensure the global roll-out of Yo-Kai Watch is successful. The anime and toys will apparently launch at the same time, but not the 3DS games, which will launch in 2016. Let us know how excited you are for some English Yo-Kai Watch action in the comments.
