The Binding of Issac: Rebirth Unleashes its Wrath July 23rd

After years of teases and behind-the-scenes drama, The Binding of Issac: Rebirth finally has a release date on a Nintendo platform. Publisher Nicalis will release the game on July 23rd for Xbox One, Wii U, and New Nintendo 3DS XL. If you wish to play this dungeon crawler on-the-go as a Nintendo fan, you’ll have to own the New 3DS hardware: it won’t play on older systems.

The history of The Binding of Issac with Nintendo platforms is long and tumultuous. It was infamously rejected back in 2012 for its religious and violent content. Nintendo of America’s Reggie Fils-Aime has expressed that he wanted the game on the eShop, however. Credit goes to former Nintendo employee Dan Alderman who championed the hardest to get the game released.

Despite an earlier April Fool’s joke suggesting the game was being edited to comply with Nintendo’s standards, The Binding of Issac: Rebirth will launch on the eShop unedited. However, the New 3DS version will lack multiplayer.
