HomeNewsTales of Splatoon Sales Around the World Alex Irish June 2, 2015 News Nintendo’s Splatoon has debuted less than a week ago, but already it’s found great success. According to their local sales tracking, the shooter has sold remarkably well in both the UK and in Japan. According to the UK’s Weekly Charts, Splatoon marks the best debut for an original Wii U IP ever, above Ubisoft’s ZombiU from 2012. It is also the fifth fastest-selling Wii U game in the territory, charting at No.2 behind The Witcher III. Meanwhile, in Japan, Splatoon‘s success can be currently judged by how hard it is to locate in retailers. The game saw a 90% sell-through since its Friday release, with the game’s amiibo line seeing a similar scarcity. Nintendo has apologized to consumers on Twitter for the shortages, and recommends prospective buyers to download the game on the eShop. At the same token, they promised to make more of the amiibo, given that they unlock special missions in Splatoon‘s single player. Anytime a major publisher ushers in a new intellectual property (IP), it’s a huge gamble. Kudos to Nintendo for making Splatoon a hit out of the gate, a difficult task when other heavy-hitters on Wii U have been familiar brands like Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. We have not seen any North American sales numbers, but we anticipate sales information come mid-June when NPD releases their information for May 2015. Share this post: No related posts.
