Super Mario Maker Supports 99 Unique Amiibo Costumes

A new trailer for Super Mario Maker has gone live in Japan, and among other things, it confirmed that amiibo support will extend to 99 in-game costumes. With the exception of the Mii Fighters, every amiibo will have a skin in the 8-bit mode of Mario Maker. This includes upcoming amiibo like Chibi Robo and select Animal Crossing cards. Players without the amiibo can unlock these skins through the game’s 100 Mario Challenge.

In addition, the official website confirms that the game’s download size is a mere 1.4 gigs, and will include controller support for the Wii Remote, Classic Controller (Pro), and the Wii U Pro Controller.

Super Mario Maker was previously confirmed to have amiibo support during E3 2015. The game will launch alongside two unique 8-bit Mario amiibo in celebration of Mario’s 30th anniversary, including classic and modern-colored amiibo.

Europe is also getting a console bundle for Super Mario Maker, including the Wii U, Mario Maker, and the special Mario amiibo. None of this has been formally announced for North America.
