HomeNewsShovel Knight Amiibo Confirmed, Unlocks Features Across 3DS and Wii U Versions Alex Irish August 28, 2015 News, amiibo After a back and forth of rumors, the highly-anticipated Shovel Knight amiibo was announced at last night’s Nindies@Night live stream. It will work across both versions of Shovel Knight on Wii U and 3DS. When you scan in the Shovel Knight amiibo into its eponymous game on Wii U, a friend can join in for co-op multiplayer. Across both the Wii U and 3DS versions, the amiibo can be used to unlock customizations and level-up your player character with “visual enhancements and relics, and abilities”. Both versions will also boast a challenge mode that works with the amiibo. While it is not compatible with Super Smash Bros., the Shovel Knight amiibo is promised to work with “future Yacht Club Games and Nintendo products”. Shovel Knight marks the first indie game to support amiibo on Nintendo platforms. Which, according to NoA’s Damon Baker, is precisely the point. “Creating an amiibo that’s compatible with all current and future Shovel Knight games shows that our strong relationship with independent developers is constantly evolving,” he said in the official press release. While retailer GAME is taking pre-orders for a November release in the UK, no North American release date has been announced. In the meantime, check out the announcement trailer below for a taste of the new features unlocked by the Shovel Knight amiibo. Share this post: No related posts.
