HomeNewsPSA: Yo-Kai Watch Anime Premiers Today, October 5th Alex Irish October 5, 2015 News, Features, General If you’re looking forward to the upcoming release of Yo-Kai Watch on Nintendo 3DS this November, you’re in luck. The anime series inspired by the Level-5 game starts airing in North America this afternoon at 5 PM ET (8 PM Pacific) on Disney XD. Episodes premier all week at 5 PM beginning October 5th through the 9th, then will return to a regular schedule of Mondays at 5 PM ET. If you miss their first airing, they’ll be available to stream online at Disney XD GO!. The Yo-Kai Watch anime premiered in Japan in January 2014, and quickly became a monster hit. It helped propel sales of the 3DS game to greater heights from its July 2013 launch. Of course, there’s also a real-life toy based on the franchise’s titular Yo-Kai Watch, also a massive seller in Japan. The roll-out of Yo-Kai Watch in North America follows a similar pattern to fellow monster battling franchise Pokémon back in 1998: the anime premiered before the games themselves, followed by plenty of merchandise. Level-5 and partners like Nintendo, Hasbro, and Viz Media have high hopes for the franchise’s western expansion. The question remains if Americans will embrace Yo-Kai Watch the same way Japan did.
