PSA: Mario Kart 8’s 200cc Patch and DLC Pack 2 Now Live

This morning, ahead of the standard eShop update, Nintendo did a solid by slipping out the latest patch for Mario Kart 8. Not just any old patch, mind you. This patch brings the game to version 4.0, and includes features like 200cc difficulty to all players, new amiibo costumes, and the ability to download the Animal Crossing crossover DLC.

The full list of additions in v4.0 run thus:

  • 9 Mii suits added: Wario, Pac-Man, Olimar, Bowser, Sonic, Toad, Villager, Rosalina and Mega Man
  • 200cc class added
  • Sparks effect when braking in 200c class
  • braking added to Wii Remote
  • Ability to add CPU players for custom online rules
  • The ability to display the map on the TV screen with non-GamePad controllers (Wii Remote, Pro and Classic Controllers) by pressing the minus button
  • 10 new Miiverse stamps
  • various bug fixes

If you pre-purchased the latest DLC last year, the game will prompt you to download it right away. Otherwise, it’ll run you $7.00. It includes new tracks inspired by Animal Crossing, F-Zero, and more remade circuits.

Let us know if you’ll be tearing up the track with the new 200cc and DLC courses: they’re a scream.
