HomeNewsNintendo’s Website Now Directly Sells Virtual Console and eShop Titles Alex Irish January 8, 2015 News Late last year, Nintendo’s American website quietly launched the ability to directly purchase (and download) digital retail games. Through the power of the Wii U and 3DS’ sleep modes, these purchases can begin downloading said purchases right away. However, only first-party (and major) Nintendo games have been available. Now, without any fanfare, a slew of Virtual Console and eShop exclusives have been added to digitally purchase via the official website. Around 100 games are currently available as of this writing. Old and new Nintendo favorites are joined by Virtual Console games from third parties like Capcom and Konami. However, it’s far from a comprehensive list, with many obvious games not available yet. It’s certainly another step in Nintendo’s march to selling digital games in a modern and convenient manner. Perhaps the next step will be a smart phone app with the same purchasing power. As with full retail games, in order to take advantage of this download option, your 3DS and/or Wii U must have a linked Nintendo Network ID.
