New Pokémon Remake Details, Including Delta Episode and More

Last night, Japan’s Corocoro Magazine began spilling a new dose of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire details. And just as quickly, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company confirmed the news and released a trailer to boot. There’s a lot to absorb in the latest rush of Pokémon remake news, including a special mission involving Deoxys, a new character with clues to the secret of Mega Evolution, and a myriad of Legendary Pokémon to dot the land of Hoenn.

Of greatest note is the Delta Episode. It seems to be a special story mission that expands the roles of Teams Aqua and Magma, and ties the Mossdeep Space Center to Deoxys, finally after the location was left undeveloped in the original GBA games. The press release says the mission “involves the history of the Hoenn region, reaching 3,000 years into the past, and makes the mysteries of Mega Evolution clear at long last. The episode thrusts Trainers into a quest to save the world – the Mossdeep Space Center, a research facility for studying space and rocket science, discovers that a giant asteroid is hurtling toward the planet. Trainers must stop Team Magma and Team Aqua from attacking the facility. Meanwhile, a battle in space is brewing between the Sky High Pokémon Rayquaza and the DNA Pokémon Deoxys. Rayquaza faces a fateful challenge that will determine the future of Hoenn. Helping Trainers restore peace to the Hoenn region are Sootopolis City’s Gym Leader, Wallace, and the Hoenn region’s Champion, Steven, both of whom hold secrets to stopping the asteroid.”

It’s not clear yet if the Delta Episode will be including in the game, or is downloadable content. If it is in-game with no external download, it would mark the first time an Event Pokémon (Deoxys) will be available within a Pokémon game.

Another major character was introduced, Zinna, who is described as “a mysterious girl rumored to possess the key to the fate of the world. She bears a certain destiny. Zinnia wears a Mega Anklet set with one of the mysterious Key Stones, which allows her Salamence to Mega Evolve.” At the same time, “there is new movement from Team Magma or Team Aqua, depending on which game you play. It appears that either Courtney / Matt is targeting Trainers to steal the Key Stones needed to make Pokémon Mega Evolve.”

Many more Legendary Pokémon will appear in Mirage Spots. The Johto beasts Raikou, Entei, and Suicune, along with the activation of Regigigas through capturing the Regis of Hoenn (Regirock, Regice, Registeel), Uxie, Mespririt, Azelf, Cresselia and Heatran, and Unova legends like Cobalion, Verizion, and Terrakion, Thunderous, Landrous, and Tornadous all appear in these remakes. This lines up with comments from Junichi Masuda, who said he wants it so players can catch all the Pokémon using only the 3DS series of Pokémon games. Players of Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 have no doubt already captured a sizable number of these Pokémon, so be prepared to catch them again (certainly to have tournament-legal versions, as online tournaments tend to only allow Pokémon caught in current games).

We were also reminded of the Eon Ticket, and the “interesting” choice to have it distributed via Street Pass and only Street Pass. As a reminder, you should activate Street Pass in the games through the BuzzNav device, and keep it on wherever you go, in order to access either Latios or Latias depending on your version.

What do you think of all this Pokémon news, so close to the launch of the remakes? Are you excited to battle Deoxys and discover the secrets of Mega Evolution?
