HomeNewsMinecraft Could Come to the Wii U if the User Base is Large Enough Jelani Thompson August 31, 2014 News Daniel Kapman from 4J Studios was recently quizzed on Minecraft coming to other platforms. Although we know that the Xbox One and PS4 already have versions of the game, there hasn’t been any discussion of a Wii U port as yet. When asked about potentially bringing Minecraft to other platforms, Daniel Kapman said the company’s decision to bring it to said platform would depend on the size of user base and ease of updating the game once ported to the console. “It’s mostly about platforms that make sense,” he said about ideal destinations for Minecraft. “We didn’t anticipate the mobile version to be that big compared to the PC, and it’s the same for consoles. People always compare it to the PC, which is supposed to be like the big original version where you get all the cool features first.” Kapman went into further detail about the Minecraft user base outside of PC as well. “But we have seen there is a massive audience on other platforms so there are still huge groups of people who don’t play on PC at all.” Kapman also went on to discuss ease of updates on platforms they decide to port the game to. “The whole point of Minecraft is that you get updates all the time. If you release somewhere you want to make sure that we will be updating rather than, ‘Oh yeah, we only sold 1000 copies on that platform so let’s kill it off’. That’s not the way Minecraft has been developed.” Would you like Minecraft to come to the Wii U? Do you think the user base on the console would be large enough for 4J Studios to support the game?
