Reports have been pouring in around the world of Splatoon‘s successful May launch, but nothing has been heard of the US until now. The NPD results for May 2015 bring good news for Nintendo fans, not just of Splatoon, but for amiibo as well.

Splatoon came in 5th place in the Top 10 for the month, which was not-surprisingly led by The Witcher III. Surprisingly, Super Smash Bros. 4 squeezed into the 10th position overall. Unconfirmed reports estimate that Nintendo’s new IP sold 136,000 units in the days following its May 29 launch. By comparison, Splatoon sold 144,000 units in its first week in Japan alone, at 90% sell-through no less.

Here’s the Top 10 for Software in the US:

  1. The Witcher III: Wild Hunt (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
  2. Mortal Kombat X (PS4, Xbox One)
  3. Grand Theft Auto V (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3, PC)
  4. Minecraft (360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4)
  5. Splatoon (Wii U)
  6. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (PS4, 360, Xbox One, PS3, PC)
  7. NBA 2K15 (360, PS4, Xbox One, PS3, PC)
  8. FIFA 15 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3, Wii , 3DS, Vita)
  9. MLB 15: The Show (PS4, PS3)
  10. Super Smash Bros. (3DS, Wii U)

In other news, Nintendo’s amiibo line led the toys-to-life category in sales for the first time since its November 2014 launch. The feverishly anticipated launch of Wave 4 no doubt helped give amiibo the edge over Skylanders and Disney Infinity.

As usual, Nintendo will not disclose the hardware numbers on Wii U, the console Splatoon is home to. They have only said that 3DS sales are up 50% over the same period last year. For the month, Sony’s PlayStation 4 ruled the hardware race.
