HomeNewsLayoffs Hit Western Studios of Nintendo Partner, DeNA Natalie Kipper April 15, 2015 News, General Not even a month after announcing a major partnership with Nintendo, mobile company DeNA lays off large numbers of employees at two of both their Vancouver and San Francisco studios. This also comes after their recent app, Final Fantasy: Record Keeper, hit 1 million downloads. In a statement to GamesBeat, DeNA said: The West will continue to be one of our core markets for our mobile gaming business, and this decision has no relation to our alliance with Nintendo or the popularity of Final Fantasy Record Keeper. Among those laid off was product manager at DeNA Studios Canada, David Phan. His social media post mentioned that the staff reductions were “significant.” There are now many talented ex-DeNA staff out of work. Phan requested that other studios “consider bringing on board some these ex-DeNAers, as they will contribute great things to your team.” These layoffs in light of Nintendo’s partnership leave me wondering what future the alliance will bring. It certainly doesn’t fill me with hope and I can’t imagine it will be good for stocks. And to all affected by these layoffs, we wish you the best. Share this post: No related posts.
