Indie game Timespinner to be made for the 3DS

Those reading the Mighty No.9 updates may have seen a community spotlight on Timespinner. That’s how I learned about this indie game by Lunar Ray being ported to the 3DS after reaching its $115,000 stretch goal. At the time of this writing, it has reached $125,000 in funding with the next stretch goal being a new game+ and a special costume.

According to the Kickstarter page, “Timespinner is a 2D Metroidvania Platformer for PC, Mac OS X, and Linux. At its heart, the game is a child of the great pixelated classics of the SNES and PS1 age. From the rich story worlds of Star Ocean, the expansive gothic castle exploration in Castlevania, and the tight gameplay of Megaman X, Timespinner seeks to weave all of these elements into one amazing game. “

The story is about a 20 year-old girl named Lunais’ quest for revenge after an invading force comes to her home planet and kills her family. She escapes via the Timespinner, a portal her mother activates that sends her to a foreign world. As the legendary artifact breaks with this last act, it is now Lunais’ task to gather the pieces of the Timesplitter and use its power to take down an evil empire.

It’s not a new concept for the story and gameplay to hinge upon revenge and time control, but if the gameplay and story works, then it will be a welcome addition. If it plays as well as Megaman X, then I’ll be sure to pick it up.

What are your thoughts on Time Splitter? Are you planning on picking it up? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
