HomeFeaturesHere’s Everything From The Switch Nindies Broadcast Alex Irish February 28, 2017 Features In case you missed it, Nintendo just aired their Nindies Showcase just ahead of the Switch launch on Friday. The de-facto Nintendo Direct brought a battery of independent games; some that are new, some previously announced, and some indies that have timed exclusivity for the hybrid console. The broadcast is right below, followed by all pertinent announcements. The showcase opened with a trailer for SteamWorld Dig 2, the sequel to the exploratory platformer that began life on 3DS in 2013. The sequel launches on Switch this summer. Nintendo compared the game’s exploration to that of their own Metroid franchise. Developer Image & Form Games happens to be one of the first partners that was confirmed for Switch development. Right after launch, Inti Creates’ Blaster Master Zero arrives on both the Switch and 3DS on March 9th. A belated follow-up to Blaster Master: Overdrive on WiiWare, Zero includes two-player modes and the same beating heart of 8-bit inspired visuals and sound. Azure Striker Gunvolt DLC will also be crossing over with Blaster Master Zero, with more DLC to follow. Chucklefish Games and Cardboard Robot Games are bringing Pocket Rumble to the Switch, a 2D fighter heavily inspired by the look of games on SNK’s Neo Geo Pocket Color handheld. Launching this March, it makes use of HD Rumble and has a simplified two-button combo system, also inspired by NGPC fighters which used such a control set-up out of system limitations. Yooka-Laylee was once again confirmed to be coming to the Switch this year, following the launch of the throwback platformer on other consoles and PC. Its publisher Team 17 is also bringing Overcooked! Special Edition and The Escapists 2 to the Switch later this year. WarGroove is likely to give long-term Nintendo fans Advance Wars flashbacks, as the turn-based strategy game bears a striking resemblance. It launches on the Switch this spring, courtesy of developer Starbound. Having begun life on WiiWare, the Bit Trip series returns to the Switch with Runner 3. As Runner 2 was an early Wii U indie back in 2013, so too will Runner 3 arrive on a Nintendo platform, but not until this fall. Among the indie ports from other platforms coming to the Switch, there is Overcooked! in a special edition that includes all previously released DLC, HD Rumble, and 4-player multiplayer. Stardew Valley was confirmed to bring multiplayer action exclusively to its Switch version this summer. Dungeon crawler Enter the Gungeon will also make its Nintendo-debut with a Switch port. Publisher Nicalis, a long-time supporter of Nintendo, has re-confirmed their Switch line-up with The Binding of Issac: Afterbirth leading the charge. Cave Story, 1001 Spikes, and Ittle Dew 2 are also planned for release in the near future. April releases for the Switch’s Nindie line-up thus far includes Graceful Explosion Machine, Shakedown Hawaii, and Mr. Shifty. The upcoming Dandara promises to bring gravity-bending action from Raw Fury and Long Hat Games. Other planned indies for the Switch not directly shown in the showcase include Terraria, Mutant Mudds, and Treasurenauts (spotted in the cover image on the top of this article). Come launch day, players will be able to download indies including Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove and Fast RMX. The full list of upcoming games is below, too many to count but factored into Nintendo’s promise of over 70 indies coming to the Switch in 2017: 1001 Spikes Away: Journey to the Unexpected Battle Chef Brigade Blaster Master Zero Cave Story Celeste Dandara Duck Game Enter the Gungeon Fast RMX Flipping Death GoNNER Graceful Explosion Machine Has-Been Heroes Hollow Knight Hover : Revolt Of Gamers Human Resource Machine Ittle Dew 2 Kingdom: Two Crowns Little Inferno Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom Mr. Shifty Mutant Mudds NBA Playgrounds NeuroVoider Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas Overcooked!
