First Details on Skylanders SuperChargers

As previously expected, Activision unveiled their first trailer and footage for the upcoming Skylanders SuperChargers. And as previously rumored, the game centers around vehicles, or the titular SuperChargers. The game will make its appearance on Wii U, 3DS, and the original Wii. Among home console adaptations, the Wii version will offer a “complimentary” experience that differs from the rest. Why? Because this time, there is procedural content generated under the hood of the vehicular game play.

The Starter Kit will come with Hot Streak vehicle, Sure Shot Stealth Elf and SuperCharger Spitfire. The Traps from last year’s Trap Team will also be usable in the new NFC platform, albeit to power up vehicles rather than trap villains. Curiously, the Skylander figures cannot fit into the vehicles. What the vehicles do is give players access to a series of racing challenges on land and sea.

The good news is that if you have a previous power base from Skylanders Giants onward, you’ll be able to use it in SuperChargers. Of course, you’ll be able to chase down 20 vehicles and 20 new figures to enhance your game play.

In other news, the Skylanders franchise has moved over 250 million figures, and generated $3 billion for Activision, since 2011. This marks the fifth entry in the Skylanders franchise overall. The main console game will be developed by Vicarious Visions, while Beenox is handling the Wii and 3DS editions. The game launches September 20th in North America, with the starter kit priced at $74.99.
