Eiji Aonuma Teases that Character we saw in Zelda U Trailer Wasn’t Really Link

Zelda U E3 2014

Today, at Nintendo’s E3 Digital Event, a short cinematic of the long-awaited Zelda U game was shown. According to the presentation, this entry in the franchise would be completely open world featuring bright and vibrant colors.

In an interview with Mike Minotti of Venture Beat, group manager of Nintendo’s EAD Software Development Group, Eiji Anouma, provided a mysterious answer when questions about the antagonist’s new appearance were brought up.

“No one explicitly said that that was Link.”

In other parts of the interview, Aonuma mentioned that he was trying to shake up Zelda’s traditional conventions, so a new antagonist wouldn’t be a bad guess. Of course, I could always be wrong.

Minotti brought up the fact that the costume worn by the main character shown in this trailer looks similar to the outfit worn by Toon Link at the beginning of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, and when this connection was brought up, Aonuma simply smiled.

Could this game possibly be connected to the Wind Waker Universe? There’s only one way to find out when more details are released. What do you think? Could this be a new antagonist? Do you think it’s Link? We’d love to hear what your thoughts are. Sound off in the comments below!
