Camp Miiverse Cancelled in Light of Iwata’s Passing

The 2015 edition of Camp Miiverse kicked off only a week ago, and now it has been called off entirely. Just days after the untimely passing of Satoru Iwata, Tom of Nintendo took to Miiverse to explain that the cancellation was in consideration of the tragedy, but thanks fans for playing all the same.

Hi everyone, We decided to cancel future Camp Miiverse activities this summer in light of the recent events. Please accept my deepest and most sincere gratitude to everyone who joined. We hope you had fun playing, and continue to do so playing our games. Thank you. Here is a message to all our fans from everyone here at Nintendo of America: “The outpouring of support and the sharing of so many memories has been truly humbling and has helped us tremendously during a difficult time. Mr. Iwata leaves behind an amazing legacy and we will spend every day trying to honor him and what he created. Thank you for being the best fans in the world.”

Camp Miiverse was originally set to run from July 7 – July 20. The games in the competition included Splatoon, Mario Kart 8, and Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
