Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Jumps From Wii U To Switch

For Wii U owners, the Kickstarter sensation Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will no longer be coming to the platform. That version has been replaced with one for the Nintendo Switch.

For those who made a pledge for the game on Wii U, that pledge has automatically gone towards the Switch. If you would prefer backing one of the other available platforms, you’ll need to amend your survey. If you wish to cancel your pledge, you’ll need to request a PayPal refund by April 20th.

The game’s director Koji Igarashi explained that the Wii U version is no longer happening due to the system’s defunct popularity and lack of support:

“During our Kickstarter campaign, the Wii U was at the height of its popularity, but the situation has drastically changed after the release of Nintendo Switch.

This change made it difficult to receive the necessary support from the hardware maker, which has led us to drop the Wii U development and shift the development to Nintendo Switch.”

This sort of turn of events for a Wii U Kickstarter is nothing new, of course. Among their ranks, the upcoming Yooka Laylee was also stripped of its Wii U version in favor of the Switch, with backers choosing if they wanted to make the upgrade or to get their refund. The Wii U port of Yooka-Laylee was originally promised to be its “definitive version” to which all others were based upon.
