Bayonetta 2 Direct Details Nintendo Costumes, Co-op

Bayonetta 2 Direct

During this afternoon’s Nintendo Direct, Bayonetta 2‘s director Yusuke Hashimoto and producer Akiko Kuroda shared some new details on the upcoming game. Unlike the first Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2 has players fighting demons in Inferno, along with the angels of Paradiso fans of the first game may be more familiar with. According to Hashimoto, the game’s story will also have “some unexpected twists”, which isn’t too surprising given the often unpredictable nature of most of Platinum’s games.

While several Nintendo-themed costumes for the titular character were revealed for the port of Bayonetta 1, it was confirmed that these costumes would also be present in Bayonetta 2, along with a few extras. Accompanying the previously announced Peach, Link, and Samus costumes are a Daisy costume and a Fox McCloud outfit, which only appears in Bayonetta 2. While wearing the Fox costume, Bayonetta wields a pair of Arwing-shaped pistols which lock-on to enemies with the square targeting reticules found in the Star Fox games, as well as using the same blaster effects when fired.

Also discussed was the brand-new online co-op mode, called Tag Climax mode. In this mode, players can not only play as Bayonetta and the previously announced Jeane, but the bartender/weapons dealer Rodin as well. The difficulty in Tag Climax can be adjusted by betting halos, the game’s currency, in a fashion that bears resemblance to Kid Icarus Uprising and the upcoming Super Smash Bros.

The full Nintendo Direct can be found here, and Bayonetta 2, which includes a port of the first Bayonetta, will be released on October 24th.
