Animal Crossing: New Leaf Monthly Update – May

Well, compared to the past few months, May and June are looking pretty uneventful. So, I’m going to combine them together this time!

Sunday, May 11th is Mother’s Day. Mom will send you a Pink Carnation in the mail, even though that’s your job. This is pretty cool though, because if you’ve been playing the game since launch, you already have the Red Carnation from Dad. If you plant these side by side and water them, you can get White Carnations! This is normally the only way to acquire them. If you haven’t got your Red Carnation from Dad, just wait until Father’s Day in June. Don’t forget your Mother in real life today, either!

Saturday, May 17th is the last Fishing Tourney for a while. Chip will ask for either Carp, Black Bass, or Sea Bass. This is your last chance to get that gold trophy until October.

Sunday, June 15th is Father’s Day. Dad will send his Red Carnation, and you can breed it with the pink one to get an endless supply of White Carnations. Remember to wish your real Dad a happy Father’s Day, too.

Saturday, June 21st is the Bug Off! Nat the chameleon will be in the plaza from 9 A.M. to 6 P.M. and he’ll accept any bug. Go to the island the night before and catch a Golden Stag or Horned Hercules, these will net you the best score, but save them for last so you can turn in lesser bugs for furniture items.

It’s been a fun year playing AC: NL!

June 9th is also a special day, though not within the game’s calendar. It was the day last year that New Leaf released in North America! And what a year it’s been! As of now I’ve logged 460 hours into it myself, and I feel like I’ve still got a ways to go in terms of completing the catalogue and badges. I get excited thinking about the possibilities for the next AC too. If the Wii-U can gain a foothold this year we may yet see an AC released on it.

There are a few changes I would have made to the game myself. First off, I think you should be able to mail letters and items to other players through streetpass and spotpass. Also, voice chat functionality would have been really useful, the “L” button goes pretty much unused and I think it would have been perfect for “push-to-talk.” Lastly, I think there could have been more weekly visitors to the plaza. Once you have Katrina’s and Gracie’s shops the only real visitors you get are Redd, and to a lesser extent, Chip and Nat of the monthly tournaments.

What would you have done differently? What do you think they could add to a Wii-U version?

This could potentially be my last New Leaf Monthly Update, but I’ve enjoyed bringing the news to you. Please bookmark and sign up for our newsletter to get daily updates on all things Nintendo!
