Chadtronic Interview

Always Nintendo recently got the chance to chat with Chadtronic, a self-proclaimed Youtubing Nintendo Nerd. In this interview, we talk a little bit about his involvement with virtual reality, other new tech and the way he incorporates the two with Nintendo games.

Always Nintendo (AN): So, tell us a bit about yourself, Chad!

Chadtronic: I’m your above-average Nintendo fan who resides in Northern Iowa. Outside of YouTube, I’m an avid PC gamer and Nintendo collector.

AN: When did you start playing games? What are some of your favorite games, and what have you played recently?

Chadtronic: My first ever console was a Super Nintendo given to me by my parents for Christmas. I’d say I became extremely hooked by the time of the Nintendo 64 era. Games like Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time are some of my all-time favorites.

As for what I’ve played recently? I’ve been playing a lot of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and just recently became of huge addict of collecting all the new amiibo figures.

AN: Your YouTube channel is awesome! Often times you can be seen controlling the Master Hand with the leap motion accessory, or even exploring various game worlds with your trusty VR helmet. What made you start posting videos, and what’s the best part about running the channel?

Chadtronic: Thanks! I’ve been a long-time lurker on YouTube being a fan of many other people’s channels. Inspired by them, I finally decided to start my own. The best part for me is seeing the reaction every time I put out something new. Every new subscriber gives me the sense I’ve made a new friend.

AN: We’ve noticed you like to feature some really obscure and interesting stuff on your channel, examples including your “WTF Moments in Nintendo Power” or “Mildly Interesting Facts” series. Has doing research about these facts and controlling these games differently helped you see the games you play nowadays in a different light? What do you think the future of gaming holds?

Chadtronic: It’s a lot of fun for me to seek out and learn something new about some of my favorite older games. Information is addictive. The Oculus Rift was originally a impulse buy for me and ever since it gave me a sense of immersion I immediately wanted to explore older games with it. Playing with it genuinely makes you feel like you’re inside the game and gives you an entirely new experience.

I think the future of gaming will be very interesting, with more mediums to play and enjoy. With new systems starting to surface like the Oculus Rift and Playstation Morpheus, it will be interesting to see if Nintendo ever tries to take advantage of this new tech.

AN: What else do you do for fun besides playing games and making videos? What are you working on now?

Chadtronic: Like I mentioned I’m a avid PC gamer. Annually, I organize a convention here in Iowa called MEG-CON. MEG-CON stands for “Midwest Electronic Gaming Convention”, and to be quickly summed up is a giant LAN party that supports hundreds of gamers. It takes up a lot of my time but is extremely fun and rewarding to work on every year! http://meg-con.com.

Thanks again to Chadtronic for taking the time out to speak with Always Nintendo! Be sure to subscribe to his YouTube channel or follow him on Twitter. If you’re a fan of amiibo, you’ll also want to watch his tutorial videos on training amiibos.
